Prohibition of Alcohol Increased Death in America: What Do You Think Will Happen When they Ban Your Guns?
I don't want to sound cold here, but the odds of being killed by a drunk driver are low. I bring this up for a reason as a group of Americans call for the next generation of prohibition, which is take the guns away from the American public. The federal government attempted to keep Americans safe by making it illegal to drink alcohol. Guess what happened next...
The results of alcohol prohibition did one thing. It increased violence by empowering gangs. When Americans are robbed of their gun rights, what do you think is going to happen to these gangs who will still be armed? They of course are going to become stronger because they know the average citizen in Lake Forest, Illinois, can't protect themselves, so the gangs of Waukegan and North Chicago will move southward where the rich man lives because there will be little to defend the property owner in the nicer neighborhoods.
Consider:
In Prohibition there were many problems. It was during the Great Depression and alcohol did make a lot of money. Congress just tought that alcohol was causing crimes and violence. But that got even worse during Prohibition when addicts didnt get their alcohol. It raised the death toll, domestic violence counts, and crimes. It raised the crimes because more people were making alcohol illegal and making "speakeasies". The domestic violence raised because husbands would come back up all liquored up and beat wives. Prohibition didnt really help like it was supposed to it just hurt the dying economy even more.
The death toll in Prohibition was higher than it was before Prohibition. This scared many people. Between 1920 and 1925 the death toll was from between 1,064 to 4,154. People thought that with having Prohibition, cirrhosis and other alcohol related deaths would be prevented. It didnt really work that way. Alcohol made people react in a violent way and it increased the rate of domestic violence in homes.
Before Prohibtion alcohol related crimes were through the roof. Even during Prohibition crimes were bad. When they banned alcohol people just made it at home and it had more potency when they made it at home because they made it out of household chemicals. People would go on alcohol fueled rants and rob banks, beat wives (or husbands), and just go out and harass people. Prohibition did increase the crime rate in the US. Gangsters and criminals would find ways to make or buy alcohol. Sometimes the police could be bought out to be a gangster or a criminal. Even the government would throw parties with alcoholic beverages.
Prohibition doesn't work. It has been proven it actually increases crime.

Career criminals love it when they pass lots of laws and make things very complicated. It's a real "job builder."
ReplyDeleteOr you could take the sensible approach and liken it to the rising deaths from synthetic marijuana because of marijuana prohibition. And you know, ballooning prison costs, enforcement costs, residual violence... hell, even a lot of the violence that's blamed on your precious guns (which by the way I don't think anyone is taking away). But sure, be shortsighted and just scream about the injustice instead of seeing solutions to multiple problems including your own.
